thoughts sleepily fold

This pot is a collaboration with multidisciplinary maker Gin Saunders whose work is often about storytelling. The words were generated through numbers chosen by others, via her Laureate Box which is a manual poetry machine allowing you to create poetry by choosing word tiles from a repurposed slide box. The second Lockdown edition box contains words collected from messages and posts during the UK lockdown.

Gin needed a container for her small bound editions of poetry that were made via the Laureate box.

This pot is thrown and altered white stoneware, adjusted so that it retained the shape of a rocket pot but had a big enough opening for the books.

The decoration is a combination of underglaze transfer and chance painting by birds and the wind. During the summer of 2020 I was listening to lots of 1950’s science fiction and working on a series of analogue drawing machines. This influenced the shape and decoration of the pot.
