Cobalt Mugs

White stoneware thrown mugs with cobalt and slip decoration.

Mugs of happiness. The textures are reminiscent of denim and embroidery and the three dimensional properties of the decoration provides interest for fingers and palm when held. This results in a feeling of greater connection with the object when held.

Functional prototypes for the Visible and Tactile Sound series. The mugs are all thrown from 500g clay and have a variety of handle styles. Decoration is white slip and/or cobalt stained dripped via a pendulum with brushes of cobalt oxide over the top. The mugs are finished with a transparent glaze inside and out, leaving the base unglazed.
